Motorists travelling along the R102 near King Shaka International Airport and the Shortlands area have been urged to remain vigilant after a zebra was spotted wandering close to the busy roadway.
The animal has reportedly been seen on several occasions, raising fears that it could be struck by a vehicle or trigger a serious road accident.
Residents have called on wildlife authorities to intervene and safely capture and relocate the zebra before it comes to harm.
The RUSA Helicopter pilot and crew are on standby to assist wildlife specialists should an aerial search and rescue operation become necessary.
Reaction officers have also warned that the zebra could become vulnerable to poachers if it continues roaming in the area.Authorities have appealed to the public not to chase, feed or attempt to capture the animal, as this could increase the risk of injury to both the zebra and members of the public.
Residents are encouraged to report sightings to the relevant wildlife authorities while motorists are advised to reduce speed and drive cautiously through the affected area.
