High-speed shootout ends in crash as stolen vehicles recovered in Amanzimtoti

Two vehicles stolen in the Berea area — a Toyota Corolla Cross and a Toyota Land Cruiser Prado — have been recovered following a dramatic high-speed chase and shootout in Amanzimtoti.According to Arrive Alive, three suspects were arrested after the stolen vehicles lost control and collided during the pursuit.

The suspects, who sustained injuries in the crash, were transported to hospital under police guard.Authorities said the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado, stolen in April, was fitted with a tracking device, which helped law enforcement track its movements. The Corolla Cross had been reported stolen in March.

“Acting swiftly, members initiated a coordinated ground search,” Arrive Alive said.

“The stolen Prado was soon spotted travelling alongside a Corolla Cross believed to be escorting it, prompting a high-speed chase.”Multiple units, including Amanzimtoti SAPS Crime Prevention, Metro Police K9, and ET Rapid Response TRT, joined the pursuit.

During the chase, suspects allegedly opened fire on officers, who returned fire under extreme conditions.The chase ended when both vehicles crashed into each other.

Recovered items included a firearm, signal jammer, police scanner, car-breaking tools, and computer boxes. Police praised the coordinated effort, confirming no officers were injured.
