KwaZulu-Natal First Lady Mrs S.P. Ntuli has commemorated Women’s Month by engaging with widows in Umlalazi Local Municipality under the theme, “Embracing, Empowering and Supporting Women: Turning Loss into New Possibilities.”
The event was attended by Umlalazi Mayor Councillor Q.T. Xulu and KZN Director-General Ms Nokuthula G. Khanyile.
Addressing the gathering, Mrs Ntuli assured widows that government remains committed to supporting them in various aspects of life, including business and economic opportunities.
She also praised widows for overcoming the stigma and discrimination often associated with losing a spouse, while raising strong, resilient and thriving families.

In an interview, Mrs Ntuli said the engagement was aimed at reminding widows that their journeys do not end with the loss of their partners.
“We want to embrace and empower our women and ensure that they know there are opportunities available to them. Losing a spouse should not mean losing hope or purpose.”
She encouraged widows to support one another and make use of available government programmes.
