Three alleged hijacking suspects were arrested after crashing into a motorist’s vehicle while attempting to flee police on Higginson Highway on Friday.
According to reports, members of the Isipingo SAPS Trio Crimes Unit, working alongside private security partners including Marshall SOT, ET Rapid Response, Tracker Connect and Fidelity SIU, spotted the suspects shortly after they had allegedly committed a robbery in the area.
In a desperate bid to evade arrest, the suspects allegedly drove into oncoming traffic, colliding head-on with an unsuspecting motorist. The impact left the motorist seriously injured. Emergency services rushed the victim to hospital for urgent medical treatment.
Police swooped in on the crashed vehicle and apprehended all three suspects at the scene. A search of the car uncovered two firearms, suspected car theft tools, a signal jammer and a police radio believed to have been used to monitor law enforcement movements.
Authorities have confirmed that investigations are ongoing, and the suspects are expected to face multiple charges, including attempted murder, hijacking and possession of illegal firearms.
