A well-known Durban personality, popularly known as “Moona”, was left in tears after being arrested for allegedly speeding at 171km/h in a 120km/h zone on the N2 near Park Rynie.

The incident was confirmed by the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Transport through its official Facebook page. Authorities said the man, who is reportedly also a pastor in the Zionist church and known in social circles and event planning circles, was stopped by Road Traffic Inspectorate (RTI) officers during a recent speed enforcement operation.

According to the department, RTI officers detected the vehicle travelling far above the legal limit before pulling it over. The driver allegedly became emotional during the stop and was later placed under arrest.

Officials said the car involved had reportedly not been used for a long time, but was still recorded travelling at the high speed. The department praised RTI officers for their vigilance, stating that their operations continue to play a key role in keeping KwaZulu-Natal roads safe.

The suspect’s name has been withheld as he has not yet appeared in court.

He is expected to appear before the Scottburgh Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday to face charges related to reckless and excessive speeding. Authorities warned motorists that law enforcement will continue targeting dangerous drivers on provincial roads.
