Hundreds of young athletes in the uMgungundlovu District now have a better chance to chase their sporting dreams after the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Sport, Arts and Culture handed over sports equipment to 48 schools at Mpophomeni Stadium in Howick.
The initiative, led by MEC for Sport, Arts and Culture Mntomuhle Khawula and Head of Department Dr. Thobile Sifunda, aims to strengthen grassroots sport by ensuring learners have access to the equipment they need to participate and develop their talents.
The donation covers various sporting codes and is expected to encourage more young people to become active, build self-confidence, develop discipline and unlock their potential both on and off the field.Speaking during the handover, officials highlighted that every sporting champion begins with an opportunity.
By investing in schools, the department hopes to create pathways for future provincial, national and international stars while promoting healthier lifestyles among young people.Teachers, coaches and learners welcomed the initiative, saying the equipment will make it easier to train, compete and identify promising talent within their communities.
