Mdu Zondi stood tall among fellow beneficiaries as the Ndumeni Municipality’s IDP and Budget Roadshow brought not just equipment, but renewed hope to the community gathered at the Horse Racing Grounds on Tuesday.Zondi, a local farmer, was one of 16 emerging entrepreneurs who received essential tools and resources across sectors such as livestock farming, tailoring, grass cutting and technology.
Armed with a R10 000 voucher, he said the support would finally allow him to expand his farming operations.“For too long I have been knocking on government doors seeking help with no success. This grant will allow me to open five hectares and create job opportunities for young people in eNdumeni,” he said.
The roadshow, led by Deputy Minister of Transport Mkhuleko Hlengwa alongside Ndumeni Mayor Mncedi Mkhize, forms part of the municipality’s drive to stimulate local economic growth and empower small businesses. Residents also witnessed the unveiling of key municipal assets, including a grader and a water tanker truck, aimed at improving road infrastructure and water delivery.
Hlengwa urged the community to protect public resources from vandalism, stressing that they belong to the people. Meanwhile, Mkhize commended residents for participating in ward meetings, saying it strengthens service delivery. Despite progress in road maintenance, Mkhize acknowledged the municipality’s financial strain, with debt exceeding R30 million.
He appealed to residents to pay their municipal rates, emphasising that community revenue remains critical for Ndumeni’s sustainability. For many like Zondi, the roadshow was more than an event—it was a turning point.
