MTHWALUME – Local talent will be in the spotlight as Mzumbe artists are celebrated at the first Mzumbe Maskandi Music Festival on June 16 at the Sibanini Sports Complex in Mthwalume.

The festival organizer, Amanda Eve Mseleku, made the announcement during the official media launch. She shared that the festival will honor renowned maskandi artist Mjolisi and Mthwalume traditional leader Bhekizizwe Luthuli for their contributions to promoting Mzumbe.

Mseleku mentioned that the event aims to support emerging artists by providing them with exposure and opportunities in the industry. “We want to empower upcoming musicians to reach the level of established stars. Through partnerships with industry companies, artists will not only perform but also gain valuable experience and recording opportunities,” she stated.

One of the main partners is Sold Out Media, founded by Xolani Majozi, which will significantly help in promoting local talent.

The festival features a strong lineup, including Menzi, Nkeshembe, Inkosi YamaGcokama, Khuzani, and Ntencane.

In addition to music, the event is expected to enhance the local economy, benefiting taxi operators, accommodation providers, and restaurants in the area.

Mzumbe Municipality Communications Manager Sabelo Ncwane welcomed the initiative, commending its focus on supporting both artists and local businesses.

Gates open at 9 am, with tickets available from Webtickets, Boxer, and Pick n Pay stores, priced from R130 to R1500.
