Police have provided an update following a widely circulated video showing a woman being carried by two men in Durban’s city centre.The incident occurred on Saturday night along Broad Street. According to investigators, the matter involved a couple whose argument reportedly began at a nearby flat before continuing inside a vehicle seen in the viral footage.
Authorities confirmed that there were four occupants in the car — two men and two women. During the altercation, the woman at the centre of the video allegedly jumped out of the moving vehicle.
Police say she was highly intoxicated at the time.She was later transported to Addington Hospital, where medical staff treated her for minor injuries before discharging her.
Further investigations led officers to the vehicle’s owner, who resides on Victoria Street in Durban. He has been identified as a Nigerian national and the boyfriend of the woman involved.Police also tracked down the woman at a shop she owns on Russell Street. She is a South African citizen originally from Pietermaritzburg.
After being interviewed, she declined any further assistance from authorities. Police say no charges have been laid at this stage, and investigations remain ongoing.
