Madlanga Commission Back, Targets Tshwane Tender Scandal

News

The Madlanga Commission of Inquiry has resumed hearings after a brief Easter break, zeroing in on alleged corruption within the Tshwane Metro Police Department.

The inquiry, which probes misconduct in the South African Police Service and the wider justice system, will continue examining claims of tender rigging linked to a multi-billion rand security contract.

Spokesperson Jeremy Michaels said the commission will proceed with both airing allegations and allowing implicated individuals to respond.

The contract in question, awarded to 22 companies and worth about R2.9 billion, has come under scrutiny after being extended beyond its original срок.

President Cyril Ramaphosa has extended the commission’s deadline, with a final report expected by 31 August 2026.

Several officials have already been suspended as investigations deepen into suspected corruption networks.
