Endumeni Launches Easter Road Safety Blitz to Protect Holiday Travellers

News

As the Easter holiday period gets underway, the Endumeni Local Municipality has rolled out a coordinated road safety operation aimed at safeguarding motorists and promoting responsible travel. Led by Mayor Cllr AM Mkhize, alongside Cllr Msezane and Director of Corporate Services Mrs M. Mbuyisa, the early morning roadblock brought together Endumeni Traffic Officers, KwaZulu-Natal Traffic authorities, the South African Police Service (SAPS), and SANTACO.

The initiative forms part of the national Arrive Alive campaign, focusing on ensuring vehicle roadworthiness and strict adherence to traffic regulations, particularly within the public transport sector. Authorities are placing special emphasis on preventing taxi overloading during this high-traffic period.

Speaking directly to motorists, Mayor Mkhize called for vigilance and discipline on the roads. He stressed the dangers of drinking and driving and urged consistent seatbelt use, regardless of law enforcement visibility. He also appealed to citizens to prioritize collective safety.

Highlighting the spiritual importance of Easter, the Mayor encouraged unity, compassion, and peaceful celebrations. He is set to visit several local churches over the weekend to engage with residents.

Visitors to Endumeni have been warmly welcomed, with assurances of heightened law enforcement presence to ensure a safe and enjoyable holiday.
