Forbes Responds After AKA’s Murder Shown in Madlanga Inquiry

News

Tony Forbes is once again facing emotional pain, not from new information, but from the public display of his son’s last moments at the Madlanga Commission.

Forbes has strongly criticized the Commission for airing graphic footage of AKA’s murder, which occurred in February 2023 when he was shot alongside his close friend Tebello ‘Tibz’ Motsoane outside a restaurant on Florida Road in Durban.

The video, shown during Sergeant Fannie Nkosi’s testimony, depicts a gunman approaching the rapper and shooting him at close range. Forbes believes that the choice to show this footage was not only unnecessary but also extremely insensitive.

He raised concerns about why such graphic material was considered necessary for the public, especially since it contributed little to the questioning. He also voiced his disappointment with the Commission’s leadership, indicating a concern for desensitization in the quest for justice.

Forbes has officially reached out to the Commission, urging them to show more compassion towards grieving families.

His response has sparked renewed discussion about the need to balance transparency with dignity, and whether the justice system is failing those it is supposed to protect.
