Hillcrest, KZN – A local teacher’s quiet act of bravery has emerged as a human story of resilience following a deadly police shootout that left two murder suspects dead in KwaNgcolosi early Saturday morning.
According to police, the suspects were linked to multiple murders, including the killing of an elderly woman and a teenage girl. Officers tracked them to a rondavel where a fierce exchange of gunfire erupted. Both suspects were fatally wounded, and no officers were injured.
Amid the chaos, nearby resident and primary school teacher, Nomusa Dlamini, became an unexpected pillar of support. Awakened by gunshots, she rushed to comfort terrified children in neighboring homes.
“I couldn’t just stay inside while they were crying,” Dlamini said. “They needed someone to tell them they were safe.”
Parents later praised her calm presence, saying she helped ease panic during the tense moments.
While police continue investigations, including attempted murder charges related to the shootout, the community remains shaken. For many, however, Dlamini’s compassion stands as a reminder of humanity in the face of violence.
“People like her keep our community together,” said one resident.
