World Cup Prep: Broos Brings Back Zwane & Maseko, Snubs Chaine

Sport

Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos has unveiled his squad for the upcoming friendlies against Panama, with notable returns and surprising omissions shaking up South Africa’s World Cup preparations.

Thembinkosi “Mshishi” Zwane and Thapelo Maseko are back in the fold, providing fresh attacking options ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Zwane, a creative force in midfield, and Maseko, enjoying a resurgence at AEL Limassol, are expected to bring experience and flair to Broos’ plans.

However, Orlando Pirates’ goalkeeper Sipho Chaine, who leads the Betway Premiership with 14 clean sheets, has been left out. In his place, Renaldo Leaner gets a chance to stake his claim, highlighting Broos’ willingness to test options ahead of the World Cup.

Bafana will face Panama in Durban and Cape Town, giving Broos a critical opportunity to finalize his squad for June’s tournament. With the clock ticking and competition fierce, every selection could prove decisive in South Africa’s bid to make an impact on football’s biggest stage.
