A quiet community has been left in shock after a nine-year-old boy tragically drowned
in a dam near Bongimfundo Primary School in the early hours of Sunday morning.
Emergency responders from IPSS Medical Rescue were called to the scene after a
frantic overnight search for the missing child ended in heartbreak. According to
preliminary reports, the boy had been playing with a neighbour’s child near a small
dam on Saturday evening when he allegedly slipped and fell into the water.
The second child reportedly alerted the family when the boy failed to return home
later that evening. Concerned relatives and community members immediately
launched a desperate search, combing the area throughout the night.
At approximately 04:00 on Sunday morning, rescuers recovered the boy’s body from
the dam. Paramedics attempted to assess the child, but he was sadly declared dead
at the scene.
Authorities have opened an investigation into the incident to determine the exact
circumstances surrounding the tragedy.
Emergency services say the incident highlights the ongoing danger posed by
unfenced dams, rivers and open water sources in residential areas, particularly for
children.
IPSS Medical Rescue has extended heartfelt condolences to the grieving family and
the broader community during what they described as an “incredibly difficult time.”
