A group of frustrated supporters of Kaizer Chiefs marched to the club’s headquarters at Naturena on Saturday morning, demanding urgent changes following the team’s recent poor run of results.
The protest comes after Amakhosi suffered four consecutive defeats, a disappointing stretch that saw them eliminated from the Nedbank Cup — a tournament they won last season — as well as the CAF Confederation Cup.
The fans have called for the removal of the club’s co-coaches, Cedric Kaze and Khalil Ben Youssef. Speaking in an interview with Robert Marawa on 947 Radio, Chiefs’ sporting director Kaizer Motaung Jr said the club acknowledges supporters’ frustrations but stressed that the issues facing the team go beyond the coaching staff. “As a club, we’re constantly evaluating ourselves, our processes, and there’s a ton of work that has been done behind the scenes. It’s not just about coaches, it’s not just
about players, it’s about our whole footballing structure,” he said.
In a brief statement on X, the club confirmed that representatives accepted a memorandum from the marching supporters and noted that the engagement was peaceful. “This morning, we received a memo from supporters who marched to the Village. We all cooperated with each other,” the club said.
Chiefs also thanked supporters for expressing their concerns in an orderly manner and said the issues raised would be reviewed internally.
Currently sixth in the Betway Premiership standings, Amakhosi will look to bounce back next weekend when they host Durban City FC at FNB Stadium. A victory could help them climb the league table and ease growing pressure from their supporters.
