EThekwini Municipality has taken a major step towards introducing its long-awaited GO!Durban public transport system, following the signing of the Corridor 3 (C3) Process Agreement with minibus taxi and bus industry representatives.

The agreement was signed on Friday, 30 October 2026, at the Durban Exhibition Centre, where the City also unveiled a new bus ahead of the corridor’s anticipated December launch.

The C3 corridor will connect Bridge City in KwaMashu with Pinetown, becoming the first operational corridor of the City’s Integrated Public Transport Network. It is expected to improve access to employment opportunities, schools, healthcare facilities and other essential services.

Delivering the keynote address, eThekwini City Manager Musa Mbhele said the agreement demonstrated the City’s commitment to building a safe, reliable and affordable public transport system.

“The GO!Durban C3 Process Agreement represents important progress in strengthening collaboration between government and the public transport industries as we work towards a network that serves our communities and supports economic participation,” said Mbhele.
Mathula Mkhize, chairperson of the eThekwini Metro Taxi Council, welcomed the development, describing it as a significant achievement for the public transport sector and the result of ongoing consultation and partnership.

The agreement provides a framework for affected taxi and bus operators to participate through formally contracted Vehicle Operating Companies.

Before passenger services commence, the City will finalise operating contracts and complete infrastructure and system testing.
Corridors C1, C9 and C2 are expected to follow as part of the network’s first phase.
