MAGABHENI, KwaZulu-Natal – African National Congress (ANC) president Cyril Ramaphosa is visiting Magabheni, located south of eThekwini, as the party steps up its campaign work before the local government elections.
Ramaphosa is campaigning in eThekwini on Wednesday and Thursday. The ANC is working to rebuild voter support after performing poorly in the 2024 national and provincial elections.
During his time in Magabheni, Ramaphosa spoke with residents through the party’s door-to-door campaign. This approach helps the ANC connect with communities and learn about their worries regarding services and living standards.
The campaign happens as the ANC faces stronger competition in KwaZulu-Natal. The party’s support dropped to around 16% in the 2024 elections, while the uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party won about 45% of the provincial vote.
These results have pushed the ANC to work harder to win back voter trust in a province that matters greatly to the organisation’s history.
Ramaphosa has said before that he believes the ANC can rebuild its support in KwaZulu-Natal. He says the ANC remains focused on growing its strength in the province.
However, problems with service delivery, local government performance and community growth remain key issues as political parties push their campaigns forward.
Interview with Nomusa Dube Residents did not share their direct thoughts about Ramaphosa’s visit or their views on service delivery for this report. This information would show whether the campaign is truly meeting the community’s needs.
The ANC’s work in eThekwini is seen as an important step in its plan to reconnect with voters before the elections.
