InvestigationSouth Africa is facing renewed concern over violence against women after the bodies of six women were discovered in and around Ekurhuleni, Gauteng, over the past two months.
The deaths, reported in areas including Kempton Park, Olifantsfontein and Springs, have left families devastated and communities deeply worried. Some of the victims are reportedly believed to have been sexually assaulted.
The latest discovery was made in Kwa-Thema, Springs, on Tuesday, 15 September, adding to a series of cases that police are now investigating.
President Cyril Ramaphosa has expressed his condolences to the affected families and directed police to treat the cases as a priority.
Ramaphosa said he had been briefed by the Police Minister and Acting National Police Commissioner and instructed law enforcement agencies to “leave no stone unturned” in finding those responsible.
The President also appealed to members of the public to work with investigators, saying information from communities could be critical in identifying the perpetrators and preventing further attacks.
Anyone with information about the killings, or who has a missing family member or friend, is urged to contact Warrant Officer Elvis Manyike on 082 465 7249.
