IXOPO – Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, Blade Nzimande, today led a District Development Model (DDM) oversight visit at the Harry Gwala District Municipality Council Chambers in Ixopo, KwaZulu-Natal.The visit forms part of the Minister’s role as the District Development Model Champion for the Harry Gwala District and follows an earlier engagement with the district and its local municipalities, where several development priorities and challenges were identified.
During the meeting, the Department of Science, Technology and Innovation is expected to provide feedback on concerns previously raised by municipal leaders while assessing progress made in implementing agreed interventions.
Discussions are focusing on updates from the Political and Technical Hub, the implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding between the Department and the Harry Gwala District Municipality, and proposed development projects to be supported by the Technology Innovation Agency (TIA).The oversight visit aims to strengthen collaboration between national, provincial and local government in advancing innovation-led development, improving service delivery, and creating sustainable economic opportunities across the district.
The engagement has brought together government officials, municipal leadership and stakeholders committed to accelerating development through the District Development Model.
