South African award-winning gospel singer Dumi Mkokstad has sparked heated debate on social media after a video showing him carrying a handgun in public went viral.
The clip, shared on X, formerly known as Twitter, shows the Ukuhlala Kuye hitmaker standing with two other men while joking about feeling safer with the firearm visibly tucked onto his belt.
The video quickly drew mixed reactions online, with some social media users questioning whether the gospel star had broken the law by openly displaying the weapon in public.
X user @Zikamnyamane captioned the clip: “Singer and gospel minister Dumi is embracing a handgun in the public domain.”Some users reacted humorously, while others expressed concern.@Zamie8909 joked: “This dude seems like he never got to enjoy his childhood because of gospel and responsibilities.
Now he’s going backwards and finally experiencing his fun side.”Others were more critical.@MajorrSA claimed: “He already broke the law. A firearm is supposed to be concealed in public.”
Meanwhile, @VoetsekMinister wrote: “This marks the sad beginning of the downfall for Mdumiseni Nzimande. You live by the sword, unfortunately you die by the sword.”
Another user, @LeBrown_james98, alleged that someone once accused the singer of bullying during his school years in Yeoville or Hillbrow. The viral clip has since triggered widespread discussion around firearm ownership, celebrity behaviour and public safety.
