Motorists across South Africa are being urged to act swiftly following a recall of certain Hyundai vehicles due to a potential safety defect affecting airbags.
Hyundai Automotive South Africa, a subsidiary of Motus Holdings Limited, has announced the recall of fourteen 2011 models of the Hyundai i30 (FD) and Hyundai Elantra HD that were distributed locally.
According to the company, the affected vehicles may experience abnormal operation of the driver’s airbag unit. This defect could increase the risk of injury in the event of a collision, prompting the precautionary recall.
Hyundai has called on current owners of the identified vehicles to prioritise safety by booking their cars for inspection and necessary repairs at the nearest authorised dealership. The company emphasised that all corrective work linked to the recall will be conducted at no cost to customers. In cases where vehicles have since changed ownership, previous owners are encouraged to assist by contacting Hyundai Customer Care to help trace current owners and ensure the issue is addressed.
The recall forms part of ongoing efforts to uphold vehicle safety standards and protect consumers from potential harm.
Consumers seeking further information or clarity on the recall process can contact the National Consumer Commission via email at ProductRecall@thencc.org
