MTOLO SURVIVES AXE AS MBALULA ANNOUNCES NEW ANC KZN LEADERSHIP

DURBAN – Former ANC KwaZulu-Natal provincial secretary Bheki Mtolo has narrowly survived a political reshuffle after being retained in the newly announced interim provincial leadership by ANC Secretary-General Fikile Mbalula.

The announcement was made during the week at the Coastlands Hotel in Durban, where Mbalula unveiled sweeping changes affecting the province and its 11 regions. The newly appointed structure is significantly smaller than the previous interim committee led by Jeff Radebe, who has now been removed.

Mtolo returns alongside several seasoned ANC figures, including Ravi Pillay, Mike Sutcliffe, Nomsa Dube-Ncube and Hlengiwe Mavimbela. The 44-member interim committee will be led by Mike Mabuyakhulu, supported by Bongi Sithole-Moloi, James Nxumalo, Siphile Mdaka and Nomagugu Simelane-Mngadi.

Notably absent from the new structure are Radebe, Nhlakanipho Ntombela and Weziwe Thusi. Reports suggest internal disagreements, particularly between Radebe and Mabuyakhulu, contributed to the leadership overhaul and the failure to rebuild party branches.

Mbalula stressed the urgency of rebuilding the ANC’s structures in KwaZulu-Natal, warning that opposition figures like Helen Zille are gaining ground through aggressive campaigning. He said the party cannot afford delays as it works to regain strength in the province.
