The eThekwini Municipality’s Economic Development and Planning Committee has commended the work being done by the SmartXchange Centre of Excellence for its role in supporting and developing small businesses through its incubator programme.
The committee, led by Chairperson Thembo Ntuli, visited the centre to monitor progress and assess the impact of public funds invested in the project towards the growth and sustainability of SMMEs.During the visit, committee members were briefed on how the incubator programme has assisted a number of emerging entrepreneurs by providing business support, mentorship, and development opportunities aimed at improving business sustainability and job creation.
Representing the centre’s management, Business Development Officer Shante Hassan and Projects Specialist Sharnel Pillay expressed appreciation to the committee for visiting the facility and engaging with beneficiaries of the programme.They conveyed gratitude on behalf of Jonathan Naidoo, who was reportedly out of the city on a business trip at the time of the visit.
The committee said initiatives such as the SmartXchange incubator remain important in driving local economic development and empowering small businesses within the municipality.
