KwaZulu-Natal’s small business sector received a major boost as the Bambelela Business Awards concluded a successful three-day programme, celebrating entrepreneurship while injecting over R1.1 million into local enterprises.

The initiative brought together 128 micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) from across the province, offering a platform for growth, networking and exposure. Proceedings began with a comprehensive briefing session, equipping participants with insights into the awards process, funding opportunities and sustainable business practices.

The second day shifted focus to exhibitions and engagement, with business owners showcasing their products and services. Panel discussions and elevator pitches created opportunities for entrepreneurs to connect with potential partners and investors, while also gaining valuable market visibility.

The programme culminated in a prestigious gala dinner hosted at the Hollywoodbets Greyville Racecourse, where winners were announced and funding distributed. A total of R1,135,000 was awarded, marking an increase from previous years and reinforcing commitment to enterprise development.

Among the highlights, 17 businesses each received R45,000, while top finalists secured larger prizes, with the overall winner taking home R145,000. Additional spot prizes and a social media competition further rewarded innovation.

Organisers hailed the awards as a powerful catalyst for MSME growth, sustainability and long-term economic impact across KwaZulu-Natal.
