Two suspected criminals were shot and killed during a gunfight with police at the Kennedy Road informal settlement in the early hours of Friday morning.
Members of the Sydenham SAPS Trio Task Team had been tracking the pair in connection with a string of house and business robberies, as well as alleged extortion activities.
The suspects were also believed to be linked to armed robberies along the N2, where stranded motorists were reportedly targeted.Police located the men hiding inside a shack, leading to a shootout.
Both suspects were fatally wounded at the scene. Two firearms were recovered. Investigations are ongoing.
