Coaches Abdeslam Ouadou and Cedrick Kaze have promised fireworks when Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs clash in a blockbuster Betway Premiership showdown at FNB Stadium on Sunday at 3pm.
Pirates must win to keep pace with Mamelodi Sundowns in the title race, while Chiefs are chasing a third-place finish to secure CAF Confederation Cup qualification. The stakes are even higher following Pirates’ dominant 3-0 victory in the previous league meeting — adding extra edge to South Africa’s biggest football rivalry.
Kaze believes Chiefs are a different side heading into the clash.
“We’ve been in good form, winning five of our last six matches and drawing one,” he said.
“We want to win this game. Injuries have affected us this season, but recently we’ve had a more settled squad and consistency has helped us.”
Ouadou echoed the magnitude of the occasion, describing it as a global spectacle.
“This is a massive game watched around the world. I’ve played in France and England — people talk about this fixture,” he said. “We know what we want to achieve this season. The challenge is selecting a team because every player is hungry and ready.”
Both coaches stressed their responsibility to deliver an entertaining encounter for supporters. “We must give the fans a great game,” Ouadou said. “They support us everywhere, and we need them to achieve our goals.”
Kaze praised the Amakhosi faithful: “We don’t just have fans — we have a family. We want to win for them and give them something to celebrate.”
A win for Chiefs would strengthen their grip on third place, while Pirates aim to stay firmly in the title hunt.
