POLOKWANE – Emotions ran high in court on Thursday afternoon as popular Lekompo musician Lehlogonolo Katlego Chauke, known to fans as Shebeshxt, broke down during his ongoing bail hearing.
The 31-year-old artist, who is facing an attempted murder charge, has spent the past five months behind bars while fighting for his release. In a deeply human moment, Shebeshxt turned to his long-time girlfriend, Kholofelo Chuene, and called her the “love of my life” as he struggled to hold back tears.
His lawyer, Michael Khumalo, argued passionately for bail, telling the court that his client’s health is at serious risk. Khumalo explained that Shebeshxt requires a leg operation following severe injuries from a past car crash. He warned that without proper medical care, the musician could face permanent deformity.
The case has also been marked by tragedy. The same accident that left the artist injured claimed the life of his eight-year-old daughter in June 2024, adding to the emotional weight surrounding the proceedings.
Supporters have closely followed the case, hoping for his release as the legal battle unfolds. The bail hearing is expected to continue, with the court yet to decide on his fate.
