Entertainment

KwaMashu-born comedian, now based in the United Kingdom, Thenjiwe Mosley is set to make history with the launch of the three-day 4360 International Comedy Festival in Durban.

The festival kicks off tomorrow Thursday, with the Battle of the Funniest (Street Edition) at the Workshop Amphitheatre from 9am to 2pm.

Mosley said he was thrilled to receive over 100 applications from emerging comedians eager to participate. More than 20 comedians from townships and rural areas will take to the stage to showcase their talent. Instead of judges, audience members will vote to crown the funniest performer. Entrance is free.

Later that afternoon, the event will move to Dropkick Murphy’s, where the Durban Comedy Club and Not Quite Right Comedy will give audiences a taste of what to expect on the festival’s closing night. Entry is R60 at the door.

Festivities continue on Friday at the BAT Centre, where African comedians will share the stage with European acts from 7pm to 11pm.

The line-up includes some of the continent’s finest comedic talents, such as Carvin H Goldstone, Tshireletso Phasha, and Nonto R. They will be joined by Zambia’s Kayumba Simunhwenze, Hubert Mumba and Ginnethon Shandele, as well as Mduduzi Dlamini (Eswatini), Lawrence Ssuna, Tshepo Mpiti and Thapelo Malani.

Mosley will host all events and take to the stage with her own material, guaranteed to leave audiences in stitches. She has urged comedy lovers to come out in numbers for what promises to be an unforgettable experience.
