President Cyril Ramaphosa has commended eThekwini Municipality for successfully hosting the 46th SADC Summit in Durban, highlighting the city’s ability to stage major international events safely and professionally.
The summit, held at the Inkosi Albert Luthuli International Convention Centre, brought together regional Heads of State and Government, ministers, delegates and media representatives to discuss regional cooperation, infrastructure, agriculture and critical minerals.
eThekwini Mayor Cyril Xaba said hosting the summit boosted local economic activity while strengthening Durban’s profile as a destination for tourism, trade and investment.
South Africa also formally assumed the SADC Chairship for the next year, with President Ramaphosa taking over from Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa.
The summit programme included SADC Industrialisation Week, a public lecture by President Ramaphosa and a wreath-laying ceremony honouring struggle stalwart Oliver Reginald Tambo.
The successful conclusion of the summit has further positioned Durban as a leading African destination for high-level regional and international gatherings.
