Dundee July 2026 was a huge success across every area, from horse racing and fashion to music and community impact. The 21st edition brought crowds to Endumeni Racetrack for a day that celebrated sport, culture, and opportunity in Dundee.
The main race belonged to Siyabonga “Zozo” Mabaso from Utrecht, Emadlangeni, who rode uMpendulo to victory. Said’ It wasn’t an easy ride. Mabaso competed in six races on the day and faced setbacks early on. “Before the main race started I got hurt by one of the racers horse but a soldier has to die at work so I pushed through till I won,” he said. Despite the injury he pushed through, finishing 1st three times, 2nd once, and 5th once across his races. The win in Race 12 of 12 earned him R600 000 from the R1 million stake for the Amajuba District horse owned by Z B Mtambo.The event also drew horses from different provinces and beyond, including a competitor from Lesotho, underscoring Dundee July’s growing reputation as arguably the country’s biggest annual traditional horseracing event.

Off the track, the theme “Elegantly African – KuLit” came to life. Ankara prints, bold headwraps, earthy tones and sharp tailoring filled the grounds as designers and models showcased collections that blended tradition with contemporary style. Live music and a best dressed competition kept the atmosphere high between races.Beyond the trophies, Dundee July is making a real difference in town. Mabaso spoke about how far they are going with horse racing and appealed for more support. “This could be our source of income with jobs so scarce. We are asking for contributions from people, even from far,” he said.

He also thanked MEC Mntomuhle Khawula and Mayor Mkhize for opening the opportunity for racers in the district. Organised by the KZN Department of Sport, Arts and Culture in collaboration with the KZN Rural Horse Riding and Breeding Association, Endumeni Local Municipality and uMzinyathi District Municipality, and supported by Amathole Funerals, Hollywoodbets, Ithala and other stakeholders, Dundee July 2026 reinforced its role as a celebration of sporting excellence, diverse culture and community upliftment.
