Royal Chancellor of the House of Zulu under King Misuzulu kaZwelithini, Chief Melusi Zondi, has publicly backed the controversial “March and March” campaign calling for the deportation of undocumented immigrants in South Africa.
Speaking out for the first time amid growing public division, he addressed allegations that the campaign has fueled harassment of immigrants, including reports of motorists targeting them in the streets—claims linked to figures such as Ngizwe Mchunu and Nkosikhona ‘Phakel’umthakathi’ Ndabandaba.
His support has drawn criticism, with some interpreting it as endorsing xenophobic or racially driven expulsion. However, he pushed back on that view.“As Chancellor, I serve the Zulu nation. Supporting the march does not mean I condone violence against immigrants,” he said.
“South Africa has laws, and proper legal procedures for deportation must be followed.”Zondi, who is also the president of Black Business Forum, also raised concerns about economic pressure on locals, arguing that immigrants are increasingly dominating sectors of trade while many South Africans struggle.
Drawing from his travels across Africa and abroad, he suggested that stricter immigration enforcement is common practice globally—though he did not complete that point in the provided remarks.
