Celebrating a Maskandi Legend: Bhodloza Nzimande’s Legacy Lives On

The life and legacy of celebrated maskandi icon Bhodloza Nzimande will be honoured through a special commemorative event aimed at preserving his contribution to traditional Zulu music and culture.The initiative is being spearheaded by fellow maskandi artist Zibokwakhe Johnston Mnyandu popularly known asPhuzekhemisi, in partnership with the Icikolethu Foundation, Usizolethu Funerals and the Nzimande family.

Organisers say the event will not only celebrate Nzimande’s musical journey but also highlight his role in shaping and sustaining maskandi as a powerful form of storytelling rooted in Zulu heritage.Speaking on behalf of the family, Zandile Nzimande expressed both pride and emotion, reflecting on her late husband’s enduring dream.

She noted that although he was laid to rest during the difficult period of the COVID-19 pandemic, his vision continues to come to life through such initiatives.Phuzekhemisi emphasised that the tribute is a collective effort to ensure that Nzimande’s name remains relevant for generations to come. He said partnerships with stakeholders, including community structures and private entities, are key to delivering a successful and impactful event.

“We are committed to keeping his legacy alive and ensuring that his contribution to maskandi music is never forgotten,” he said, adding that discussions with sponsors are ongoing to elevate the event to national significance.Organisers have also confirmed that part of the proceeds raised will go towards supporting the Nzimande family, reinforcing the event’s community-driven spirit.

While the official date and venue are yet to be announced, excitement is already building among fans and the broader music community, who view the tribute as a fitting celebration of a cultural pioneer.
