Court refuses bail for suspended police sergeant

News

Suspended police sergeant Fannie Nkosi will remain behind bars after the Pretoria North Magistrate’s Court denied his bail application on Tuesday morning.Nkosi, who faces serious allegations, failed to convince the court that his release would be in the interests of justice.

The magistrate ruled that the risks surrounding the case outweighed arguments presented by his legal team, including claims that he would comply with bail conditions.Dressed neatly and flanked by officials, Nkosi listened quietly as the decision was delivered.

Family members seated in the public gallery appeared visibly shaken, some wiping away tears as the ruling sank in.Outside court, a small group of supporters expressed disappointment, insisting Nkosi deserved a chance to prepare his defence at home.

The case has drawn public attention amid concerns about accountability within law enforcement. Nkosi is expected to remain in custody while investigations continue, with the matter set to return to court at a later date.
