Mamelodi Sundowns defender Keanu Cupido has emphasised the significance of securing both an away goal and a clean sheet against Esperance in the first leg of their CAF Champions League semifinal.Masandawana claimed a narrow 1-0 victory over the Tunisian heavyweights at Stade Olympique Hammadi Agrebi on Sunday evening.
With the return leg set for tomorrow on Saturday at Loftus Versfeld Stadium in Pretoria, the Brazilians will be aiming to take another step towards back-to-back Champions League finals. Cupido believes the away goal and clean-sheet have put the team in a strong position heading into the home fixture.
“It was a tough game, we knew when we came here it was going to be tough,” Cupido told Sundowns media department. All of us fought right through the game, we knew that we have to fight for the badge and that’s what we did.
We scored one and we had to keep a clean-sheet. We knew that it’s good for us going into our home game. We knew that if we come here and we score one goal, we go home, it will be much easier for us with away goal. We felt like we did well, we had a better second half than a first half. First half actually, there were a few chances from them but Ronza [Williams] did well also, then we had a good second half.”
