KwaZulu-Natal’s top athletic talent is set for a thrilling showdown as finalists for the 2026 KZN Sport Awards prepare to battle for top honours in fiercely contested categories.

Announced by Mntomuhle Khawula at the iconic Hollywoodbets Kingsmead Cricket Stadium, this year’s lineup underscores the province’s growing dominance across multiple sporting codes.

In the Sportsman of the Year race, canoeist Hamish Lovemore, Proteas spinner Keshav Maharaj, and sprint sensation Zakithi Nene go head-to-head after standout seasons on both local and international stages.

The Sportswoman of the Year category promises equal intensity. Cricket star Nonkululeko Mlaba, netball leader Nozipho Ntshangase, and canoeing ace Saskia Hockly have all demonstrated remarkable consistency and excellence.

Beyond the field, the Visual Journalist of the Year finalists — Gerhard Durran, Sandile Ndlovu, and Thulisile Dlamini — are being recognised for capturing the province’s defining sporting moments and elevating storytelling through imagery.

Through their lenses, they have captured defining moments across multiple sporting codes, bringing local action to life and giving athletes the recognition they deserve. Their dedication to quality, creativity, and consistency has not only improved visual storytelling but also inspired a new generation of photographers in the province.

Winners will be crowned on 18 April 2026 at the Durban International Convention Centre, where anticipation is reaching fever pitch.Email: motshwari@onenews.co.za
