Actor and director Kagiso Modupe has responded to reports linking him to delayed payments involving actors and crew members from the popular drama series Pimville.Modupe also introduced his new company in a video shared on his social media platforms this week, sparking widespread reaction from fans and industry colleagues.
The House of Zwide director finally broke his silence over the financial challenges surrounding Bakwena Productions, where he serves as one of the directors.The production company previously made headlines after reports surfaced alleging it owed Black Brain Pictures R4 million.
Bakwena Productions, known for producing Pimville and Pound 4 Pound, was also reportedly ordered by the CCMA to compensate actors over payment disputes.Speaking in a video posted on his Instagram account on Monday, 11 May 2026, Modupe denied being involved in the financial operations of Pimville.
He explained that when the show signed its contract with the South African Broadcasting Corporation, he was moved from executive producer to head director.“The financial functions of Pimville were never my responsibility. That was handled by the channel and the executive producer,” he said.Several South African celebrities rallied behind Modupe following his statement.
Scandal! actress Pasi Koetle commented: “Go tlo siama Kagi,” meaning “It will be okay.”Muvhango star Gabisile Tshabalala praised Modupe for speaking out publicly.“I can only imagine how much courage it took for you to say something publicly, especially because you’re not the kind of person who likes exposing people or trying to make anyone look bad,” she wrote.
Actress Keke Mphuthi added: “We love you and stand behind you.”Actor Siyabonga Shibe also voiced his support. “I’m in full support of you because I know firsthand what you are about personally and professionally,” said Shibe.
However, not everyone was convinced.Actress Bongekile Ndaba challenged Modupe to reveal more details publicly, questioning why certain names were still being protected despite the controversy already being in the public domain.
