Excitement is building in Durban as the Ntenga Foundation officially launched its 12th annual race at the iconic Durban Botanic Gardens on Tuesday, promising an event that blends athletic energy with meaningful community impact.The vibrant launch drew athletes, officials and supporters eager to hear what organisers described as their most ambitious race yet.

Details of the 5km fun run and 10km competitive race were unveiled, alongside striking race kits, medals and prize incentives aimed at attracting both elite runners and casual participants. Foundation chairperson Siyanda Ntenga emphasised that the event goes far beyond sport.

“We are a foundation, and the funds we raise go directly towards giving back to the community and making a difference where it’s needed most,” he said, reinforcing the race’s strong social mission.

Backing the initiative, Khulezweni Buthelezi, Vice President of KwaZulu-Natal Athletics, praised the growing partnership. He noted that the foundation’s progressive work aligns with efforts to expand athletics while uplifting communities.

“Partnerships like this help us grow both the sport and community impact,” he said. Programme director and avid runner Charmain Shandu highlighted the inclusive nature of the event.

“We have a 5km fun run open to everyone, as well as a 10km race for those seeking a challenge,” she said, encouraging broad participation.

Scheduled for 24 September 2026, the race is expected to draw large crowds, with organisers confident of surpassing previous turnout figures.

Over the years, the Ntenga Foundation Race has evolved into a staple on Durban’s sporting calendar, attracting seasoned athletes and first-time runners alike.With its unique mix of fitness, community upliftment and festive atmosphere, this year’s edition is set to be more than just a race—it’s a movement with purpose.
