Man Gunned Down on Busy Durban Highway

A man believed to be in his forties was shot dead on the M1 Higginson Highway in the Marianhill area, just outside Pinetown, on Saturday afternoon.According to emergency responders, the victim was found inside a luxury vehicle with multiple gunshot wounds. He was the sole occupant of the car at the time of the incident.

Spokesperson for ALS Paramedics, Garrith Jamieson, said paramedics arrived on the scene alongside Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) to find members of the South African Police Service already in attendance.“Paramedics assessed the man, however there was nothing that could be done for him, and he was declared dead at the scene,” Jamieson said.

The scene was cordoned off as authorities began their investigation. Metro Police closed the entire stretch of the highway, causing significant traffic disruptions while forensic teams combed the area for evidence.

The motive for the killing remains unknown at this stage, and no arrests have been made.Police have urged anyone who may have witnessed the incident or who has information that could assist in the investigation to come forward.

The latest shooting adds to growing concerns over violent crime in parts of KwaZulu-Natal, particularly along busy routes where motorists have increasingly become targets.Investigations are ongoing.
