Former Pitso Mosimane visited South African Football Association House on Thursday where he formally presented a Youth Football Manual aimed at strengthening grassroots football development in the country.

Mosimane, one of Africa’s most decorated football coaches, said the manual was designed to guide coaches working with young players and to ensure age-appropriate training methods are applied from the earliest stages of development.

“This manual is for grassroots. It will give guidance and principles on how to coach a seven-year-old differently to a nine-year-old,” Mosimane explained during the presentation.

He said the document outlines key developmental principles for different age groups, including the approach coaches should take when working with children at various stages of their football journey.

“What are you doing in that space? What principles are you going to put for a 13-year-old compared to a seven-year-old?” he said.

The manual also addresses technical aspects of youth coaching such as the size of the pitch, the structure of training sessions and the appropriate ball size for young players.

Mosimane, who recently completed a coaching stint in Iran, is currently without a club. The former Bafana Bafana mentor has recently been linked with possible coaching roles at Kaizer Chiefs and a potential return to Mamelodi Sundowns.
