Eldorado Park has been plagued by increasing violence for a long time. Gangs dominated the area,
leaving residents in fear. However, a change took place on Wednesday. Armored vehicles entered the
community as soldiers from the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) arrived. Their goal: to
help reduce the crime wave that has affected the neighborhood for too long.

Local leaders, including Ward 18 Councillor Juwairiya Kaldine, showed their relief. “The army is finally
here. Thank you, Minister Gayton Mckenzie,” she stated. For years, the community had pleaded for
help, and now, the government had responded. However, the military’s presence brought mixed feelings. Some felt safer with the army’s involvement in restoring order, while others were concerned about the consequences of a strong military presence.

Nevertheless, it was evident that the situation had escalated, and drastic actions were needed.
The soldiers, operating under police supervision, were prepared to confront the violent crime groups
that had caused turmoil throughout Gauteng. President Cyril Ramaphosa had approved this
deployment as part of a broader plan to safeguard citizens and regain control from the criminal
elements.
