A 22-year-old scholar transport driver accused of causing a devastating crash that killed 14 learners appeared before the Vanderbijlpark Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, 5 March 2026.

Ayanda “Biggie” Dludla faces 14 counts of murder following the fatal accident that occurred on 19 January 2026 in Vanderbijlpark. The tragedy unfolded when the scholar transport minibus taxi Dludla was allegedly driving collided with a truck while transporting school children.

According to reports presented in court, several learners died instantly at the scene of the crash, while others who sustained critical injuries later passed away in hospital. The incident sent shockwaves through the community and left families mourning the loss of young lives.

Dludla made a brief appearance as the case was formally placed on the court roll. The State indicated that investigations into the circumstances surrounding the crash are still ongoing.

The court postponed the matter to 22 April 2026 for further proceedings. Dludla will remain in custody until his next court appearance.

The case continues to draw public attention, with many community members calling for accountability and improved safety measures in scholar transport services.
