The farewell tribute, book launch and legacy foundation ceremony of The Silence Steward: The Sipho Magwaza Story brought together educators, community leaders and former colleagues to celebrate the life and contribution of former John Dube School principal, Sipho Magwaza.

The event highlighted Magwaza’s dedication to education and community development during his years at the KwaMashu school.Speaker Thembinkosi Ngcobo praised Magwaza for the support he gave to struggling learners and families. Ngcobo said young people needed proper guidance and counselling when moving between schools to ensure they received support for a better future.

Principal of Hilton College, George Harris, described Magwaza as a respected education leader whose impact would continue beyond retirement.

“We wanted it to be the beacon that it has become in the area. Regosa has left his mark on many people in the education community and in KwaMashu,” said Harris.He encouraged Magwaza to continue sharing his wisdom with future generations, adding: “The legacy must continue. As a fellow South African, siyabonga.”Head invigilator from the Department of Education, S Lushozi, and acting principal Mlungile Cele also paid tribute.Cele said working alongside Magwaza was a great honour.“I was thrown in the deep end working with this legend, Mr Magwaza,” he said.
