KwaZulu-Natal Premier Thamsanqa Ntuli marked Good Friday with a symbolic march through the streets of Durban, carrying a wooden cross in commemoration of the crucifixion of Christ. The solemn procession formed part of Easter observances aimed at promoting reflection, unity, and social cohesion across communities.
Earlier in the day, the Diakonia Council of Churches hosted its annual ecumenical Good Friday service at the Durban International Convention Centre, drawing congregants from various denominations. Among the notable attendees was Allan Boesak, who joined worshippers in prayer and reflection.
Ntuli’s participation forms part of his Easter weekend church visit programme, which includes multiple engagements with faith-based organisations across the province. Speaking during the march, Ntuli emphasised the importance of faith institutions in fostering moral regeneration and supporting vulnerable communities.

“The Easter period reminds us of sacrifice, hope, and renewal. It is also a time to strengthen our collective commitment to building compassionate and united communities,” he said.
The Premier is expected to continue his engagements throughout the day, attending services and religious gatherings in different parts of KwaZulu-Natal as part of his outreach to diverse faith communities.
