A two-year-old girl has tragically died in Esikhawini, northern KwaZulu-Natal, after allegedly consuming chips believed to have been purchased from a local tuck shop.According to reports, the child fell ill shortly after eating the snack and was rushed for medical attention. Despite efforts to save her, she sadly passed away.

Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of death and whether the chips or any other food item may have been contaminated. Similar incidents involving suspected food poisoning linked to snacks purchased from informal shops have been reported in different parts of South Africa in recent years, prompting concerns over food safety and compliance with health regulations.

Health and law enforcement officials are expected to conduct further tests on the food products involved as part of the investigation. Community members have expressed shock and sadness over the incident, while authorities have urged parents and guardians to remain vigilant and seek immediate medical attention if children show signs of food poisoning or illness after consuming food products.The identity of the child has not yet been officially released.
